Clan War and League are here: clan tournament registration opens today, and the Sept 1 patch changes network ports

Two official announcements just over an hour apart, early on Monday. And together they deliver exactly what the producer promised ten days ago.

At 08:07 UTC came the September 1 patch, opening the League preseason. At 09:13 UTC, the Clan Battle Tournament Season 1 announcement landed, with registration opening tonight.

Let’s take it in parts, because there is detail here that disqualifies a careless clan.

The clan tournament

It is the first official season of the Clan Battle Tournament. Important detail: registration and matches do not happen inside the game — everything runs on Triumph, Masangsoft’s own tournament platform, at tp.masanggames.com.

Registration:

UTCPDT (the tournament’s official timezone)
OpensSept 1, 02:00Aug 31, 19:00
ClosesSept 8, 06:59Sept 7, 23:59

Prizes, as stated in the announcement:

PlacementPrize
1st clanExclusive profile icon + background + 100,000 ZC
2nd clanIcon + background + 50,000 ZC
3rd clanIcon + background + 5,000 ZC
All participantsExclusive event profile icon

Note the drop from 2nd to 3rd place: it falls from 50,000 to 5,000. That is how it reads in the official text.

The ZC is split equally among every player on the registered roster. And the participation reward only goes to clans that played at least one match.

The rules that knock people out

This is the part worth reading carefully, because several of these conditions disqualify you before a single match is played:

  • Only the Clan Master can register, and only one team per clan. Duplicate applications from the same clan, or using the same nickname, may be disqualified.
  • The team’s name and mark on Triumph must match the clan’s in-game.
  • Your Triumph nickname must match your in-game nickname — and keep matching from the moment registration opens until rewards are handed out. Anyone whose names do not match during that window gets no reward.
  • If a rostered player is no longer in the clan by the time of their first match, they are removed from the participant list.
  • Once registration closes, nothing can be changed.
  • If there are more applicants than slots, clans are selected in the order they applied. In other words: first come, first served. Do not leave it until the 7th.
  • A team with 4 members can fill the gap with a “Dummy” — and the announcement asks that the Dummy be named exactly N/A.

How to register, condensed: the leader creates the team on Triumph (same clan name and mark), sets up the game profile with their in-game nickname, shares the invitation link, then clicks APPLY and selects the members. Finally, Check-in to complete registration. Members join through the link and set up their profile with their in-game nickname too.

Brackets and match times live on Triumph, which shows times in your local timezone. One caveat straight from the announcement: if you use a VPN, the displayed time may be wrong — the official schedule is in PDT.

Masangsoft says the Clan Battle will keep running in the future, and that details may change without notice.

The League preseason

The September 1 patch opens the League Preseason. What the announcement states concretely:

  • League and Clan Wars matches now end immediately once a team reaches the number of rounds needed to win — previously, it seems, the match carried on;
  • preseason results will not count toward regular season records.

So: it is a trial run. You can get used to the format without worrying about your record.

Worth noting that on the official ranking, the League and Clan War tabs still do not respond — we checked just now and both still return an error. That is what we already flag on our ranking page, where both are marked “soon”. If they switch on with the preseason, they will show up there.

The September 1 patch: three items that matter

The rest of the patch is a list of fixes, but three deserve attention.

1. The network ports changed

“Changed the matching server network port settings. ※ If you have manually configured game-related ports on your router or firewall, you may need to update your existing settings.”

This matters directly to anyone who lived through last week’s crisis. A lot of people opened ports 7700–7800 on their router trying to fix the 0-ping and invisible-players problem. If you did, you may need to revisit that configuration now — and if you never touched your router, you need to do nothing.

It is also the first time the company has explicitly touched the matching layer since that episode.

2. Alt+Tab crashes

“Improved code related to client crashes that occasionally occurred during screen transitions, such as Alt+Tab.”

This is the first time Masangsoft has named a specific crash trigger. Until now the announcements only spoke of reducing “occasional unexpected game crashes”, in general terms.

If your game closes by itself, test again after the patch — and if it persists, the route is our crash and BugTrap guide, which teaches you to read mlog.txt before changing anything at random.

3. HP and AP bars on certain graphics cards

“Fixed an issue where progress bars such as HP/AP, boss HP, and remaining ammo count did not display correctly on certain GPU models.”

This matches exactly the forum reports that surfaced last Thursday and Friday about bars going black. Good news for anyone who was playing blind.

And one item that stings: XP will be taken back

“Resolved an issue that caused abnormal XP gains upon purchasing Guns Plus. — Additional EXP obtained will be retrieved at a later date.”

Translated: anyone who bought GunZ Plus and gained extra experience because of that bug will have that XP removed at some point. The company does not say when, or how much.

Worth remembering that GunZ Plus had already caused another problem: it spent about four days failing to apply the EXP and Bounty bonuses it sells, which is what earned the five-day compensation announced on Friday.

The rest of the patch

  • text and UI fixes in the shop;
  • a loading notice when switching characters quickly;
  • the Playtime event page now refreshes itself when it resets;
  • fixed progress tracking for some events and daily missions;
  • in GunZ Plus: the currency now shows as Optimite when entering the shop through the shortcut, the Optimite acquisition time display was corrected from 60 to 90 minutes, and a shortcut to the Playtime page was added.

What did not come with it

One absence stands out: there is no maintenance notice.

Every previous patch came paired with an announcement carrying a date, a time window and a duration — the August 24 one, for instance, went out ten seconds after its matching maintenance notice. This time the September 1 patch notes were published on their own, and as of publishing no maintenance window had been announced.

We checked all 28 official Steam announcements for the game: today’s two are the only ones since August 28.

The promise from ten days ago

Worth closing with the context, because it changes how all of this reads.

On August 21, in the letter acknowledging the connection problems, producer PD Max wrote:

“Looking ahead, we are actively working on the Leagues, Clan Wars, and Tournaments that so many of you have been waiting for. (…) Our ultimate goal is to see GunZ thrive on the esports stage.”

Ten days later, all three arrived on the same day — and the tournament came on the company’s own esports platform. Given the week the game had in between, delivering that on schedule was not a given.

One thing nobody explained

What is ZC?

The tournament announcement hands out 100,000, 50,000 and 5,000 ZC, but never says what the acronym means. We went looking: we swept all 28 official announcements published since July and the acronym appears exactly once — in that very announcement. No other official text uses “ZC”, and the currencies that have appeared in announcements are different ones: Optimite, Credit and Bounty (BT).

We are not going to guess. If Masangsoft clarifies, we will update here.

Meanwhile

At the time of publishing the server is stable, with 687 concurrent players via Steam’s official API. You can check the live state on the status page, and follow the ranking — which now also lets you search any player by nickname.
